Building A Home In Paradise Starts With Finding The Right Design And Construction Team
Many ex-pats and snowbirds are quite happy with finding a nice little condo close to the beach to call their second home. However, there are a select few in need of a project or – for them – the perfect property simply doesn’t exist. For these people, the only option is to find a trusted team who can get them started on building a home in Huatulco.
Take me for example; I’ve had my dream home in my mind for over 7 years. After months of searching I finally found the right lot to build on. Now it was time to find the genius that could turn my ideas into blueprints, then a home AND stay within my budget.
It’s important to mention that the concept of “contractor” isn’t very common in Huatulco. Generally you’ll find an architect who designs and builds, or an engineer that builds and has an in house design team. There are pros and cons to each of these scenarios, and in my opinion the most important thing is to have good rapport with the team that you have hired.
Tips For Finding Your Design And Construction Team
Here are five tips to get you started on building a home in Huatulco!
Tip #1:
DON’T RUSH! After thinking about what I wanted for so long, I wanted it right away! Remember folks, this is a beach town in Southern Mexico, and some things take a little bit longer than expected. This doesn’t mean that the team you hire is lazy; it’s just something you need to take into account.
Tip #2:
Decide on the style of home you like. This will steer you towards which architect to choose. Do you like colonial, contemporary, rustic or traditional?
Tip #3:
Visit the architect’s previous projects in the area.
Any respected architect or builder will almost insist that you see his design style in person.
Tip #4:
Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions and to interview 2 or 3 different professionals before making a decision.
Tip #5:
Establish your budget. It will be your personal preference whether or not you choose to share this number with your team. AND…I hate to say this but expect to go over budget at least 10-15%. Whoever tells you they didn’t go over – even just a little bit – is lying.
Building your dream home in Huatulco may be daunting, but with the right construction team and project supervisor, you’ll be more than happy with the outcome.
