Canada
High-Season Canada
Chartered flights to Huatulco depart from several major cities in Canada giving you a variety of options when choosing what works for you. These cities include; Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Saskatoon and Edmonton.
The downside is, these flights are only available during ‘high-season’ which runs from Mid-November to Mid-April. They also require a full week stay in Huatulco, which lets face it, isn’t the worst thing that could happen…
The only Canadian charter company that provides a direct flight into Huatulco is SUNWING; however there is talk that Westjet will also take on the flight.
***Tip: Wait it out! Sunwing offers discounted flights that go as low as $65 + tax a week prior to the departure date (if you’re lucky). However this tip should come with a warning; if you choose this method, be prepared for tickets to sellout fast and to possibly miss-out on the flight you want.
Low-Season Canada
If you find yourself wanting to visit Huatulco from Canada during the other 6 months out of the year, then you are probably looking at flying with Continental Airlines. This involves catching a flight from your originating Canadian airport to the Houston, Texas hub where they have a Continental flight that takes you directly into Huatulco, Mexico.
Your other option is to catch a flight into Mexico City where you will board a domestic flight to Huatulco. Thankfully direct flights to Mexico City are available through almost all major airlines. We will go into more detail on booking domestic flights in Mexico City below.
United States
High-Season United States
Chartered flights are also offered solely during ‘high-season’ in the United States. More specifically, the Chicago hub offers a direct flight into Huatulco, Mexico. This option requires the same minimum week stay as the Canadian chartered option.
The only chartered company offering flights to Huatulco from the U.S is USA3000.
Continental Airlines is still the most popular choice for flights out of the U.S. (even in high season) due to its flexibility on arrival and departure dates. U.S. flights to Huatulco on Continental all connect through Houston, TX where you board your connecting/direct flight to the Huatulco airport. Typically flights should ideally be booked as far in advance as possible. Advanced booking will definitely save you money. As seats get booked on these flights, you can see a fare jump from $400 to over $1700 for the same connecting flight combination. Christmas/New Year and February flights have, in the past, completely sold out – so plan ahead!
Low-Season United States
If you are traveling to Huatulco from the U.S during the ‘low-season’ there are several options available to you. As mentioned above, Houston offers a direct flight (on Continental), meaning you have the option of flying to Houston and boarding a flight into Huatulco from there.
Otherwise you have the option of booking a flight to Mexico City or Oaxaca City from any of the major airlines.
***Tip: Depending on where you live, it may interest you to drive across the Mexican border where you can board a domestic fight to Huatulco. Opting to fly domestic can save you a significant amount of money.

Foreigners Traveling Through Mexico City
If you are looking to board a connecting flight through Mexico City there are a few things to keep in mind. One of the major issues is that many airlines require that you book the flight to Huatulco domestically (because they can’t accept international credit card transactions). This can cause some serious issues when trying to make domestic flight arrangements. If you are looking to book domestic flights and are not able to do so online or via phone with the airline, you can contact My Huatulco Vacation for assistance with ticket purchasing.

Process Of Connecting In Mexico City
For more information on this issue view our post: Flying from Mexico City into Huatulco on Domestic Airlines.
There is a bit of a process required when you intend on connecting through Mexico City on a non-partnered airline (if you booked the domestic leg separately):
1. Go through customs in Mexico City (allow 45 minutes)
2. Collect baggage (get info on bag carousel from a flight attendant when disembarking from your international flight)
3. Re-check-in to domestic flight at the check-in counter at the Mexico City airport (check ticket for terminal information)
4. Go through domestic flight security
If you find yourself having to layover in Mexico City, you will be happy to know that there is a hotel attached via passenger tunnel to the airport. This means that you do not have to roam around outside if you do not feel comfortable. Hotel Camino Real Aeropuerto provides convenient and safe accommodations for a layover stay in Mexico City. This three star hotel offers access to 3 restaurants and a gym; perfect for a last minute layover. They also serve a hearty buffet brunch in the mornings.

I have heard rumors of WestJet starting to fly to Huatulco again. Does anyone know any truth to this?
At this point, the idea of WestJet adding this route is still just a rumor. However, we promise to keep you informed of any developments with new airlines flying into Huatulco!
Here’s hoping that we get some new routes…in the meantime, you can check out our post on AeroMexico adding Huatulco to its routes. At least now Canadian travelers have one airline that will take them all the way into Huatulco.
